Withdrawal from Oxycontin is similar to withdrawal symptoms experienced with any opiate-based drugs such as heroin, morphine, Dilaudid, methadone, and codeine.?? Causes   Any opiate-based drug can cause physical dependence or addiction. If Oxycontin is taken over a lengthy period of time, you can build up a tolerance to it, meaning that greater amounts of the drug are needed to produce the same effect.?? If you have developed a dependence on Oxycontin and you try to stop or cut back on the amount you take, your body needs time to adjust and recover, and withdrawal symptoms can result. Whos at Risk Anyone who has taken Oxycontin over a period of time, usually several weeks or more, can experience these symptoms. It varies with the individual and can happen upon quitting or cutting down. This includes patients who have taken Oxycontin as prescribed to treat pain while recovering from surgery or an injury. Symptoms Oxycontin withdrawal symptoms can range from mild to severe, depending on how much and how long you have taken the drug. Some people who have only used the drug therapeutically may not even realize that they are experiencing withdrawal; many users  report thinking that they just have the flu.?? Withdrawal symptoms usually begin six to 30 hours after the last use of the drug.?? Early Symptoms of Oxycontin Withdrawal Include: AgitationAnxietyMuscle achesIncreased tearingInsomniaRunny noseSweatingYawning Later Symptoms of Oxycontin Withdrawal Include: Abdominal crampingDiarrheaDilated pupilsGoosebumpsNausea and vomiting Potential Dangers Withdrawal from Oxycontin use can be very uncomfortable, but it is not life-threatening. However, there are complications that can occur, which do pose a  danger. Aspiration can occur if you vomit and breathe in stomach contents into the lungs, which can cause lung infection or choking. Vomiting and diarrhea can cause dehydration  and chemical and mineral disturbances in your body. The biggest danger, however, happens if you quit taking Oxycontin and decide to begin taking the drug again. Because the withdrawal process reduces your tolerance for the drug, you can overdose on a much smaller dose than you usually took.?? Therefore, most overdose deaths occur in people who have recently withdrawn or detoxed from Oxycontin start taking it again and think they can tolerate the same amount they used to take. Treatment of Symptoms If you are planning to quit using Oxycontin after heavy or prolonged use, dont try to do it on your own. At the very least, make sure someone else is around to support and keep an eye on you as you withdraw. Contact your healthcare providers and let them know that you plan to detox from Oxycontin. They will explore and recommend one of a few different regimens used for detoxification, which can include the use of Clonidine to reduce anxiety, agitation, muscle aches, sweating, runny nose, and cramping.?? They can also give you other medications for vomiting and diarrhea. Withdrawal Period The severity and length of withdrawal symptoms will vary from individual to individual. The most uncomfortable symptoms should subside within a few days to a week. However, if you find that your symptoms last longer than seven days, you should seek medical attention. If you find that you cannot quit using Oxycontin in spite of your best intentions to do so, you may need to seek a professional treatment program to help you with your dependence. Long-Term Treatment   Many people who detox from Oxycontin find that they need long-term treatment following withdrawal to stay off the drug. This can include support groups, pharmaceutical treatment, outpatient counseling, or intensive outpatient treatment and even inpatient treatment programs.??

The Emancipation Proclamation By Mr. Harding - 1259 Words

The Emancipation Proclamation has two points of views from highly qualified professors if the Emancipation was to free the slaves or not. The first Professor is Mr. Allen C. Guelzo and the other professor is Vincent Harding. Mr. Allen proposed that Abraham used the Emancipation Proclamation to free the slaves. However, Mr. Harding used his research and insisted that no the Emancipation Proclamation was not to free the slaves. On the other hand, Mr. Allen makes some well-revised statements, but Mr. Harding has facts and evidence that supports the idea that the Emancipation Proclamation wasn’t to free the slaves, but for other purposes. Mr. Guelzo was convinced that Mr. Lincoln was a hundred percent committed about freeing the slaves. Basically, the Emancipation Proclamation was to release the slaves, but on the other hand, it wasn’t. Mr. Harding however, insisted that Abraham Lincoln had no intention in releasing the slaves during his presidential years. Although, he ini tially refused to declare war of the destruction of slaves and then afterwards, he issued the Emancipation Proclamation, which ironically did not free any slaves. The Civil War and Reconstruction period occurred in the 1860-1877. As the years went by, the people were convinced that the Civil war was not exclusively about slavery, but something else. A majority of people from the South stated the fact that they were fighting for their states rights. Your Death Would Be Mine Written By Martha Hanna Tells

Your Death Would Be Mine written by Martha Hanna tells the story of life in France during World War I through the intimate correspondences of Marie and Paul Pireaud. Marie and Paul were newlywed’s who wrote daily letter correspondences during World War I. Paul was a French soldier who spent the entire duration of the First Great War, from 1914-1918, on the front lines. Marie was on the home front working the land and pregnant with the couples first child, who was born through a difficult childbirth. The Pireaud’s were two peasants from rural France in the Dordogne region. Hanna uses over two thousand correspondences between Marie and Paul to illustrate what life was like. Marie and Paul’s letters covered a wide variety of topics such as:†¦show more content†¦Paul’s experience of the Great War was not identical in all details to that of every other French soldier mobilized in defense of the nation; Marie’s was not that of every young woma n waiting at home. But theirs is a story– rich in detail, passionate in its expression–that is worth retelling. Hanna consistently maintained the thesis through out the book because the letters allowed readers to see what it was like to live as a peasant in rural France during War World I. Hanna consistently shows why the Pireaud’s story should be told. Hanna used the letters to explain different things that were happening militarily; Hanna described Paul’s experiences in some of France’s bloodiest battle, such as the Verdun and the Somme. Hanna’s use of Paul’s description of the battles is one of the many examples of how the thesis was maintained through out the book; the examples keep with the part of Hanna’s thesis that mentioned how terrifying the First Great was. Hanna also provided readers with historical context, which supported the thesis because it allowed readers to see how the war came

Sarbanes-Oxley’s Act Article Summary Free Essays

The article â€Å"Congress Should Repeal Sarbanes-Oxley Act† by William Niskannen discusses reasons and arguments why the law should be annulled. The Sarbanes-Oxley Act (SOA) was passed, in 2002 and was considered a response to the collapse of Enron and other corporations with similar problems. Nevertheless, the author views this act as inadequate, harmful and unnecessary. We will write a custom essay sample on Sarbanes-Oxley’s Act: Article Summary or any similar topic only for you Order Now Firstly, the act is viewed as unnecessary because â€Å"the stock exchanges had already implemented most of the SOA changes in the rules of corporate governance in their new listing standards†. p. 12) In other words, Exchange Commission is provided with full authority to enforce and to approve all accounting rules and standards, as well as to control financial statements of their firms. Furthermore, Department of Justice is able to prosecute executives for frauds associated with securities, stocks and bonds. The author claims that Public company Accounting Oversight Boards isn’t useful as it has no authorities to regulate remaining independent public auditors. Secondly, the law is viewed as harmful because it â€Å"substantially increases the risks of serving as a corporate officer or director†. (p. 13) The author means that SOA may serve more foreign and small firms, rather than stocks on American exchange. For example, the law suggests banning of loans to corporate officers and it leads to elimination of one of the most effective tools of executive compensation. In such a way, the act reduces incentives of directors and corporate executives to receive legal advice. Finally, the act is viewed as inadequate because it has proved to fail problems of accounting, taxation, corporate governance and auditing. In such a way, SOA increase the risk of bankruptcy. I think that the question whether SOA is effective or should be repealed is rather controversial. On the one hand, it cares for of foreign firms and small businesses, as well as fails to respond to auditing and taxing problems. On the other hand, it is designed as rescue program after Enron scandal. Its goal is to restore reputation and public trust in corporate sector in the USA. The Importance of Education in Islam Essay Example

The Importance of Education in Islam Essay To seek knowledge is a sacred duty, it is obligatory on every Muslim, male and female to get education. The first word revealed of the Holly Quran was Iqra READ! Seek knowledge! Educate yourselves! Be educated. AIIAH says in glories Quran Surah Al-Zumr, ayah 9 reveals: Are those equal, those who know and those who do not know? Surah Al-Baqarah, ayah 269 reveals: Allah grants wisdom to whom He pleases and to whom wisdom is granted indeed he receives an overflowing benefit The Holy Prophet of Allah (pbuh. said: Talabul ilmi farizatun ala kuli mulsim This Hadith means: Attainment of knowledge is a must for every Muslim. At Gangi Badur Prophet Mohammad (pbuh) set an option to unbleviour prisoners to teach ten muslims to get free. So it is clear from The glories Quran and Hadith, that to get education is obligatory for every muslim weather it is religious or worldly education. The Muslims today are the most humiliated community in the world. And should they persist in following the same educational program as given by their colonial masters, they will not be able to recover themselves from moral and spiritual decadence. Ibn Masud (RZ) reported that the Messenger of Allah said: The position of only two persons is enviable; the person whom Allah bestowed wealth empowering him to spend it in the way of righteousness, and the person whom Allah gave wisdom with which he adjudges and which he teaches to others. According to Tirmidhi and Ibn Majah, Ibn Abbas (Allah be pleased with him) narrated that the Messenger of Allah said: A single scholar of religion is more formidable against shaytaan than a thousand devout persons. Islam is our greatest gift. We have to be thankful for this gift. We have to render to Allah His due. Allah has given us so much by making us a part of the Ummah of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) so we must totally commit ourselves as followers of the Prophet (PBUH). We must become true Muslims. Now how can we become Muslims in the true sense . First let`s define what a Muslim is ? A muslim is not a muslim simply because he is born one. A muslim is a muslim because ,he is a follower of islam, a submitter to the will of Allah. We are Muslim if we consciously deliberately accept ,what has been taught by the Prophet Mohammmad (pbuh) and act accordingly. No man becomes truly a Muslim without knowing the meaning of Islam, because he becomes a Muslim not through birth but through knowledge. Unless we come to know the basic and necessary teachings of the Prophet Muhammad (pbuh) how can we believe in him, have faith in him, act according to what he taught? It is impossible for us to be a Muslim, and at the same time live in a state of ignorance. A person without knowledge is like someone walking along a track in complete darkness. Most likely his steps will wander aside and he easily can be deceived by shaytaan. This shows that our greatest danger lies in our ignorance of Islamic teachings and in our unawareness of what the Qur? an teaches and what guidance has been given by the Prophet (S). But if we are blessed with the light of knowledge we will be able to see plainly the clear path of Islam at every step of our lives. We shall also be able to identify and avoid the dangerous paths of Kufr, Shirk and immorality, which may cross it. And, whenever a false guide meets us on the way, a few words with him will quickly establish that he is not a guide who should be followed. Every one of us, young or old, man or woman, should at least acquire sufficient knowledge to enable ourselves to understand the essence of the teachings of the Quran and the purpose for which it has been sent down. We should also be able to understand clearly the mission, which our beloved Prophet (pbuh) came into this world to fulfil. We should also recognize the corrupt order and system, which he came to destroy. We should acquaint ourselves, too, with the way of life which Allah has ordained for us.. Knowledge is identified in Islam as worship. The acquiring of knowledge is worship, reading the Quran and pondering upon it is worship, travelling to gain knowledge is worship. The practice of knowledge is connected with ethics and morality with promoting virtue and combating vice, enjoining right and forbidding wrong. This is called in the Qur? an: amr bil- maruf wa nah-y ani-l munkar. We are monitoring world now in a little screen that too in a kitchen . The single touch of finger will expose the inner happenings of any country . If one can do it ,he is a literate, So the first moral obligation is to bestow thought bank with the fresh information. It is only possible ,when one will be educated, Not only we should seek knowledge, but also when we learn it, it becomes obligatory on us to practice it. Though we must remember that correct knowledge should come before correct action. Knowledge without action is useless, because a learned person without action will be the worst of creatures on the Day of judgement. Also, action should not be based on blind imitation for this is not the quality of a thinking, sensible human being. Knowledge is pursued and practiced with modesty and leads to beauty, dignity, freedom and justice. A muslim should be an engineer, a doctor,a pilot , a scentist ,an officer a professor to serve the people, that all is possible if we keep in touch with modern education. Obviously, what we may call the reservoir of knowledge is deep and profound. It is a vast and open field that is not limited. It is impossible for anyone to gain anything more than a fraction of what there is to know in the short span of one`s life. We must therefore decide what is most important for us to know and how to go about acquiring this knowledge. The following hadith shows how important and how rewarding knowledge is. He who acquires knowledge acquires a vast portion. AND If anyone going on his way in search of knowledge, God will, thereby make easy for him the way to Paradise. We, the children, are the future. The future lies in our hands, but only through knowledge because whoever neglects learning in youth, loses the past and is dead for the future. May Allah give us strength to behave and act just as He likes us to do and be pleased with us, and that should be the purpose of our lives. Rabbi zidnee ilma (O Lord, increase us in knowledge). Aameen.
